Finally! Archived entries!
March 26th, 2008 by KimChange is good!
As you’ve probably noticed, the Advertiser web site and blogs have a new look. I think all of us Advertiser bloggers are still kind of getting used to using the new blogging tool, Wordpress. One of the best new features is the addition of archives — entries from way back are now archived and are more easily accessible, without having to repeatedly click “Next Page” at the bottom of the screen. That was one of my biggest pet peeves with the old blogs.
One of the bad things is that we were unable to transfer your comments from some of the most recent blog entries to this new system. So, the entries are here, but the comments are not. You can still view the comments at the old blog site, although admittedly, that’s kinda humbug.
Naturally, there are still some kinks to be ironed out, and we welcome feedback from all of you about the blogs and the new site. One of the goals of revamping our online image, I believe, is to make the site more interactive for readers. In fact, it’s actually trying to turn you into more than readers — you’re encouraged to be commenters, photographers, writers and bloggers yourselves.
Feel free to post feedback on this blog, or email me at fassler@honoluluadvertiser.com. Looking forward to seeing you around the new site.

Is OK to email you blog ideas to you? I tend to read a lot of blogs around the net and maybe I could give you some topic ideas.

OMG. Now there’s 29 blogs.
But no blog for the Old, Fat and Poor. I guess that’s not one of the Advertiser’s target demographics.

Yikes. I had to change the text size on my brower . . . and even at “Largest” font, the site is not very largess (heh, I made a funny) in delivering decently-sized narrative that we can read. Can your web-meisters work on that?
And, while they’re at it . . . perhaps they should transmit the old comments . . . I mean, all of us spent time doing them and, well, if you’re going to transfer the previous blog entries, folks’ll wonder why there weren’t any comments for the older blog entries.
Take care.

Wordpress (which I use as well) is a pretty powerful, customizable tool.
Agree with Chicken Grease above: comment size needs to be bigger than 8 pt.

I took a look at the new Advertiser and I think it’s a bad idea for the Advertiser to allow non-reporters to keep blogs in the site itself.

The login option is nice or the HA website, but it does not apply to the blog section. (Fakers can still pretend to be others.) Also, it’s not easy to find the blogs here.

Only the blog owners can see the email addresses. So the safest thing to do would be to use same email address consistently.

Another thing, I’m not too sure why Gannet is inundating the Advertiser site with a whole bunch of blogs. What makes things worse is that the forum has a blogging function. So any Tom, Dick and Harry off the street can make a blog of their own. So by the end of the year this site probably would have 100s of blogs.

with millions of blogs out there, we are here to read HA blogs. think about it kim, by opening the gates to the public, why should HA keep their staff bloggers if others would do it for nothing? i hope i’m typing this correctly since i can’t read this flea size font.
